From Garage to Industry Leader: Collision Specialists’ Journey of Quality Service
Collision Specialists Inc began as a small home garage in 1981 and grew into a state-of-the-art repair facility with a team of skilled professionals. Through innovative processes and a strong commitment to quality service, the company has become a trusted leader in collision repair. As automotive repair techniques and customer needs evolve, CSI adapts with advanced tools, ongoing training, and a customer-focused approach to service.
In 1981, Owatonna native Randy Miller took a bold leap, purchasing an undercoating company’s tools and inventory at a sealed auction. Recently unemployed, Randy transformed that opportunity into a home-based body shop in Austin, named Randy’s Body Shop. For seven years, he worked out of a two-car garage, offering rust repairs, paint jobs, and accessory installations. Word spread and a loyal customer base grew. In 1988, Randy expanded his business, building an 1800 square foot facility at the same location and slightly changed the name to “Randy’s Autobody.” It was equipped with a new paint booth, frame straightening equipment, and body tools needed to repair collision damage. He hired his first employee in 1990
The business evolved again in 2001 when Randy partnered with Mark Reynen, officially incorporating under the name Collision Specialists Inc. In 2003, the team moved into a newly constructed, state-of-the-art 8,300-square-foot facility—now the permanent home of CSI. The new collision repair facility now has 10 employees.
Always committed to excellence, Collision Specialists embraced industry-leading innovation in 2006. Concepts from the history books of Toyota and Henry Ford were adopted, forming the backbone of CSI’s workflow. By 2019, with 11 employees, Collision Specialists Inc is now repairing three times the amount of vehicles as in 2006 while keeping quality and customer satisfaction a priority and completing vehicles in industry-leading timelines. Education, training, and a forward-thinking mindset keep the team at the top of their game. With customers and insurance partners as priority, Collision Specialists Inc remains a trusted leader in collision repair.
